Regis Notes: "While it is true that we look for a good performance on
the math portion of the entrance exam, an 85th percentile or
higher score on the math on the HSPT is not a steadfast requirement.
As far as the placement test is concerned, we look at performance skill
by skill. Students who are below proficient or partially proficient on
more than half of the tested skills are placed in our very rigorous
algebra 1 program. Students who are proficient on most and at least
partially proficient on at least eight of the ten tested skill areas
typically advance to honors geometry as a freshman math class." 2018
Feedback: Regis Placement Test on Saturday, 8 April, 2019:
There were 50 questions to answer in one hour.
40 were multiple choice and 10 were show your work.
The questions were mainly slope-intercept form, finding the slope,
finding the y-intercept, systems of equations, and then factoring,
and a couple of questions on radicals. There was one question
about the quadratic formula and one about the completing
the square method. The question for the quadratic formula was just
to plug the equation into the formula, but they didn't give you the
formula. Then for the completing the square method, they asked you
what number in the equation do you have to add to both sides.
There was also a question on using the Distance Formula
[but, you could have used the pythagorean theorem to answer it].
A score of 75% on the test + a high score on the mathematics
of the HSPT should get you in to Geometry.
